We were deeply saddened to hear news of the death in August of Old Seafordian and former teacher David Bethell.

David joined Seaford straight from Merton College, Oxford, in 1959, marrying his wife Carol in the same year. He taught French and Games, in particular hockey, but also cricket and other outdoor activities. David is pictured here refereeing a tug-of-war.

Carol (who died in March 2023, aged 91) also taught locally, and together with their three young children – Clare, Mark and Mary – were a big part of the college’s social life.

David and his family moved away in 1969 when he took up a new teaching post in Wiltshire where he lived for the rest of his life.
