Old Seafordian, Izzy Black has shared some exciting news about her musical that will be performed this weekend.  Izzy said: “My musical which began its journey at Seaford under the name of Kidz is now called Can Do Maybe - The Musical.

A huge part of the journey was the opportunity Seaford gave me to perform some of the songs in concerts, and helpful workshopping of it that I did with drama students.

I am the lyricist, composer and scriptwriter of Can Do Maybe - The Musical. I started writing Can Do Maybe at the age of 13, accelerated its completion during lockdown and my gap year and now as a 20-year-old second year Music degree student at the University of Bristol, very excitingly, it's finally having its first public performance.

Can Do Maybe - The Musical is a two act, 15-song musical which follows the lives of four young people. It deals with significant issues such as relationships, bullying, grief, implications of being a young carer, drugs and knife crime. It is an uplifting musical which inspires reflection on life behind the closed doors of our lives.

Can Do Maybe will be performed for the first time on Saturday 10 May 2025 at The Improv Theatre, Clifton, Bristol. A matinee and evening performance. These performances will be a showcase concert style version of the musical. The cast of eight and live band will be performing scenes and choreography from the musical along with all the songs.”

Sara Vernon, Director of Performing Arts said: “Izzy was a music scholar and deeply embedded in the music and performing arts departments, before she went on to read music at Bristol University. She was Head Chorister, took lead roles in plays and musicals, played in the orchestra, string group and soul band and spent a great deal of time working on her brilliant musical during her years here.

We were thrilled to workshop Can Do Maybe in an earlier form and help Izzy with the process of the gargantuan task of penning such a work. We send the cast and Izzy our very best wishes for the first two public performances this weekend.”
