Sixth Form media students got a fascinating insider view of the UK film and television industry from Old Seafordian Roland Montgomery last week.

He told students how he worked his way up from the ubiquitous lowly runner to key production department roles on ‘The Crown’, ‘Dr Strange 2’ and ‘Ted Lasso’, among others. Roland explained his job as Shipping Coordinator for Paramount Pictures on the latest Mission Impossible film, ‘Dead Reckoning Part One’ “It's a busy and varied job,” said Roland. “At one point, I was in charge of the logistics to transport a variety of aircraft to South Africa, along with all the flying kit you will see Tom Cruise wearing – the goggles, the jackets, the parachutes. That’s a lot of kit to organise and ship safely."

Year 12 student Rory Toms said: “It was so helpful to find out how he got into the industry. He gave us practical ideas of how to build up experience and contacts. And it's really inspiring to hear how he went from Seaford Sixth Form to working for some of the biggest film studios so quickly."

Teacher of Media, Holly Sabin, said: “Roland was one of Seaford's very first media students when it was launched as a Sixth Form option in 2011. It was wonderful to see him back in the College as an accomplished professional who is successfully pursuing his ambitions in such a competitive industry.”
