Seaford alumni James Cleverton and ex-Peripatetic teacher and parent of current Seaford students, Edward Hawkins, are both appearing in the world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage's new opera, The Railway Children, at Glyndebourne.

This classic children’s book has had a libretto penned by Rachael Hewer and brings new drama to the traditional story. When their father disappears overnight, the three siblings must make a new life – uncovering conspiracies, forging friendships and finding courage beside the railway tracks.

Sara Vernon, Director of Performing Arts, said: “We are so proud to have such a wonderful Seaford connection to this new opera and Edward can been seen here gifting James one of our Music Scholar’s water bottles to help keep him hydrated during the performances. We wish them both huge successes in their final performances at Glyndebourne and in the move to Queen Elizabeth Hall later this month.”

Good luck to James and Edward
