Seaford College Chaplain Father Colin Datchler held a thanksgiving service at St Peter’s Church this week to mark the joyful occasion of its freehold being transferred from the Diocese to Seaford College.
This is a momentous milestone in the life of the College, and the service was attended by members of the Governing Board, the Senior Management Team, and representatives from the wider community.
Fr Colin said: “I really felt the significance of the moment being in the chapel at this service. The school has been a loyal and diligent custodian of the chapel for many years, so to now have the freehold is entirely right. More than that, to embark on a re-ordering of the chapel to enable it to be used for so many things in the life of our school as well as being a holy place will ensure such a wonderful legacy that every pupil, parent and member of the staff team at Seaford will get to experience.”
Tapas style nibbles and refreshments were enjoyed after the service and to mark the occasion we shared replicas of the Chapel, made by Head of DT David Shaw (below, left) and his Technician Team on Seaford's laser cutter machine in our DT department. The beautiful models are in kit form for self-assembly and include a light.
A huge thank you to everyone in our community who joined us for the service. Thank you to Lucy Pitman (Chapel Prefect) for the prayers, our Chair of Governors Richard Venables Kyrke for the reading, and Fr Colin (below, right) for his wonderful sermon.
A special thank you to our Chapel Choir, Sara Vernon (Director of Performing Arts), Jenni Hawkins (Head of Music) and Kate Payne (Pianist) for the beautiful music.
Thank you to everyone who organised the event, including Colleen Hayes (below, centre) and our catering team.
